{"id":17291,"date":"2024-05-27T14:20:16","date_gmt":"2024-05-27T12:20:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sosa.several.studio\/student-pastry-chef\/"},"modified":"2025-02-04T16:02:25","modified_gmt":"2025-02-04T15:02:25","slug":"student-pastry-chef","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.sosa.cat\/en\/student-pastry-chef\/","title":{"rendered":"Sosa Ingredients and Valrhona Selection UK: Sponsor of the Student Pastry Chef of the Year 2024"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sosa.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Cecille-Youngs-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9105\" style=\"width:374px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sponsored by Sosa Ingredients and Valrhona<\/strong> <strong>Selection UK<\/strong>, the <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#00cfab\" class=\"has-inline-color\">4th edition of the Student Pastry Chef of the Year 2024<\/mark> <\/strong>was celebrated on last Tuesday 14th May at West London College, where <strong>Cecille Youngs from West Suffolk College, was crowned the winner.<\/strong> Cecille presented <em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Coconut, passion fruit, mango, white chocolate &amp; lime entremets and a rhubarb and pistachio mono dessert<\/mark><\/em><strong> <\/strong>that beat the other participants, with Penelope Garside of York Collage in second place and Jazmin Williams of NPTC Group in third.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These were the <strong>finalists <\/strong>of the competition:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Cecille Youngs <\/strong>\u2013 West Suffolk College<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Pen\u00e9lope Garside<\/strong> &#8211; York College<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Jazmin Williams<\/strong> \u2013 NPTC Group<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Khushboo Phore<\/strong> \u2013 London South Bank University<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Matthew Oldknow<\/strong> \u2013 Leicester College<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tay Simpson Rogers<\/strong> \u2013 Coleg Y Cymoedd<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Serah Morgan-Page<\/strong> \u2013 NPTC Group<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Tiana Brough<\/strong> \u2013 Leicester College<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Event<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sosa.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Members-Student-Pastry-684x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9087\" style=\"width:331px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">Student Pastry Chef of the Year<\/mark><\/strong> is <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0)\" class=\"has-inline-color has-black-color\">an <em>annual culinary competition that highlights the best student pastry chefs who demonstrate their skills and creativity in preparing innovative <\/em><\/mark><em>desserts.<\/em> This competition provides a platform for young talent to showcase their skills and gain recognition in the pastry industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This year, te main theme was based on <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#00cfab\" class=\"has-inline-color\">grab n go<\/mark><\/strong> with the students asked to present 12 identical mono portions of their chosen dessert plus 2 entremets. Head judge Franciane Tartari explained that <em><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#00cfab\" class=\"has-inline-color\">grab n go is an important part of pastry kitchens these days and it was important for students to work with the concept<\/mark>.<\/em> For the final Chefs\u2019 Forum designer Lee Yarlett created a special box for the students to display their entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Catherine Farinha, Director of The Chefs\u2019 Forum and organiser of the competition said:<em> \u201cThis was the 4th student pastry chef competition and it was the best so far. The turnout was terrific and the quality of chefs competing for the prize was incredible. As part of the prize Cecille will be going to France, During this exclusive excursion, the winner will have the privilege of exploring Andros Chef\u2019s experimental orchard, state-of-the-art factory, and the exquisite pastry training area known as \u201cL\u2019Atelier du fruit et du vegetal\u201d and also won a Heinzelmann Chef-X from S.O.S Catering\u201d<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Alongside the competition was a lively trade show event where competition sponsors introduced themselves to invited guests. A special lunch of Aussie Beef &amp; Lamb on the BBQ and lobster and crab from Royal Greenland kept everyone happy. Students from West London College prepared and served the lunch alongside tutors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A Relentless Jury<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image alignleft size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sosa.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/Jurado-Student-Pastry-Chef-1024x684.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-9098\" style=\"width:367px;height:auto\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The jury of the 4th Student Pastry Chef of the Year Competition consisted of <strong>14 members and was led by Franciane Tartari, international pastry judge<\/strong>. They had much to deliberate to find a winner with the field exceptionally strong this year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Franciane said: <em>\u201cFrom close to one hundred entries we slowly got down to the final eight and they all showed great promise in the final. What we asked was not easy but every single one of the finalists rose to the occasion.
